BEST CHEESE WE TRIED: 

SATORI CHEESES
After a couple hours of taste testing all the incredible cheeses, we were pretty cheesed out! Even though there were many, many really delicious vendors, the one which really stood out was from the Satori Family. 



Lactose-Free Cheddar Cheese
They've been hand-crafting some of the best cheese since 1939, for over 4 generations. We learned something really interesting about lactose is cheeses. Apparently, the natural sugars found in milk are lactose and so cheeses that undergo the natural aging process, the example given to us was cheddar, have very little, or really no lactose. So old-aged cheddar is considered lactose-free, even though it will not say this on the label. If the nutirition label says 0g of sugar, that means there is no lactose as well.

 WE LOVED:

Tasting all the different cured meats from South America! We were looking for some new contenders for some new products and were pleasantly surprised by the options this year at SIAL 2023 Canada. 

OUR FAVOURITE BOOTH: 

This year our favourite section was LATVIA! We were very impressed by the diversity of product offerings and how knowledge the vendors came across. The booth set up and all the displays looked great and we enjoyed meeting everyone. 



What is particularly effective with regards to the SIAL tradeshows are that every country is organized in sections across the space. It feels a little like a vendor tour around the world and makes for creative ways for the vendors to express their branding and interact with the audience. 

We enjoyed the return of SIAL Canada to Toronto and we recommend anyone interested in international food vendors to check out the next show happening in Montreal in 2024. 

The 2023 RBC Canadian Open Golf Tournament is running from June 8 - June 11th. 

Yesterday the My Basket's Team were fortunate enough to enjoy Practice Day 2 of the RBC Canadian Open. We were met with pleasantly enthusiastic volunteers and and hundreds of organizers getting ready for the big opening day. Practise Days are a great way to get see some of your favourite pro golfers up close and personal. Following your favourite golf pros is a great way to watch for tips to improve your own game!

This year's RBC Canadian Open is being hosted at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. This incredible, prestine golf course was designed by Stanley Thompson and Robbie Robinson and lies in a ideal central location in the Greater Toronto Area. It has been transformed for Canada's largest golfing event.

This is the third oldest continuously running tournament on the PGA TOUR, after The Open Championship and the U.S. Open.

According to RBC Canadian Open Website:

"Only two players have been able to capture golf’s Triple Crown (consisting of winning all three National Open titles in the same season); they are Lee Trevino (1971) and Tiger Woods (2000).

As a national open, the event had a special status in the era before the professional tour system became dominant in golf.

The top three golfers on the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada Order of Merit prior to the tournament are given entry into the Canadian Open."

RBC Canadian Open and PGA gives young Canadian players a chance if they can qualify with about 20 spots available for new players.

Our Highlights:

Our personal highlight for the day was sitting on the first tee and watching from about 2 meters away Ryan Moore hit jaw-dropping drives 300+ yards. The players are warming up in great form and we're excited for the start of the competition tomorrow. It was wonderful to survey the entire course and see what the players are up against this year!
