How Do I Wrap A Gift Basket?

1. Choose the Right Materials

Before wrapping your gift basket, you'll need to gather the suitable materials. First, you'll need a pair of scissors, tape, ribbon, and your choice of wrapping paper.

While you can choose whichever wrapping paper you prefer, we recommend using a clear wrap like cellophane or shrink wrap. This provides a clear window into the gift basket, ensuring your recipient can immediately see what's inside their box of goodies. 

Tip: Remember to buy enough wrapping paper for larger gift baskets. If you're packing your gift basket full of items like gourmet treats or making your giant fruit basket, you should overcompensate on the amount of wrapping you buy to ensure this will surround the entire basket!  

2. Lay Out All of Your Wrapping Materials to Measure

Once you're happy with your wrapping paper selection, you can lay out your materials and measure your wrapping paper to ensure that it's the appropriate length and width for your basket. 

To do this, measure the width of your container and height once all of the products are placed upright. Then, place your container in the middle of your wrapping paper, ensuring you have enough paper on all four sides to cover the height and width of the container, with a little spare at the top.   

3. Lift All of the Wrapping Towards the Top of the Basket

The third step is where you'll see your gift basket start to come together. Once you've positioned your gift basket and ensured that you have the appropriate measurements, you can lift the corners of the wrapping paper, tapering this towards the top of the basket. 

Make sure you don't drop any pieces or leave significant gaps where you can freely access the contents, as this may cause some items to fall out. If this happens, you may not have measured the wrapping paper correctly, so it's best to overestimate if possible, to ensure you have enough material. 

After lifting the wrapping paper in a tapering motion towards the top, you can bunch this together, placing a temporary fastening with twine so you can tidy up the wrapping below.  

4. Fold the Outer Corners

Now, you can focus on making the wrapping a little neater. It's likely that only bunching the wrapping will leave you with odd ends and kinks that distort the view of the gift basket. 

To avoid this, neaten and fold the outermost corners of the wrapping paper to create several clear panels around the wrapping paper. Of course, folds here and there are fine, but folding out uneven or kinked corners will create a cleaner and professional-looking gift basket. 

This is especially important if you've filled the gift basket full of highly personal treats for the recipient.

For example, suppose you're presenting a colleague with a gift basket full of spa treats to recognize their hard work. In that case, messy wrapping will only detract from the opening experience and make it harder for them to recognize the thought that went into your gift basket.

5. Secure with a Decorative Ribbon

When you're happy with the overall look of your wrapping, you can place a permanent fastening at the top of the bag with a piece of decorative ribbon. 

We recommend using two pieces of ribbon. One to secure the wrapping and one of the same colour to create a decorative bow. This will keep your wrapping tight and secure while adding a little flair to the packaging. 

6. Tape Down Any Protruding Corners

If you notice any protruding corners or corners that have split, don't panic; this is easy to fix. Simply take a small piece of clear tape and stick this down to create a more seamless look. This is useful for small tears, but if you notice large tears in the wrapping, you may have to start again.
