About Brooklin

Brooklin is truly a fantastic Canadian community in Whitby! Did you know that the area around Brooklin actually began to be settled and developed all the way back in the 1820s? Brooklin was actually named Winchester originally, but the residents decided to give the area a new name to avoid duplication with another village that already had the name of Winchester in the east of Ontario. In 1847, Brooklin got its name that we now call it by today, and it is still unknown whether or not the name came from Brooklyn, New York, or perhaps Brookin, Maine. It could have also been named for the "brook" that ran through the town as well - the origin of its name will forever remain a mystery!

This community may be small, but it has some very large employers, such as Brooklin Concrete Products, and FreshCo! Local services, banks, grocery stories and retail outlets such as Home Hardware and Castle Building Supplies all have operations and locations in Brooklin as well. It looks like Brooklin sure is a prosperous community in Whitby!

Did you know that lacrosse is actually a very popular sport in Brooklin? At one point, the community was actually known as being the smallest place to have a Major Series Lacrosse team! The Brooklin Redman Major Series Lacrosse team actually won the Mann Cup in 1968, and the team went on to obtain the same cup six more times afterwards! Who would've guessed that so much talent with lacrosse originated from this Canadian community, eh?
